What does it mean to belong to the forest — or even be the forest?
This documentary follows the origin story of the Florestania project, beginning in the Amazon rainforest of Manaus, Brazil to its first activation in the summer of 2025 at Village im Dritten in Vienna. Over a series of public workshops, community members gathered urban waste and transformed it into a living plastic forest installation — growing a forest together. Florestania asks us to sit with a contradiction: building a forest from the very waste that threatens it. In doing so, it opens a tender and urgent dialogue about our relationship with the earth — how we have used it, how we have harmed it, and how we might begin to care for it differently. At its heart, this film is about what happens when a community in Austria turns towards a forest in the Amazon, reflecting on what it means to truly take care.
