our mission

FLORESTANIA IM DRITTEN is a community art and environmental project taking place in Vienna’s new neighborhood, VILLAGE IM DRITTEN. The project invites people of all ages to take part in public workshops where plastic waste will be transformed into an immersive forest installation.

The word Florestania combines the Portuguese words for "forest" (floresta) and "belonging" or "citizenship" (cidadania). It was coined by Amazonian Indigenous activist Ailton Krenak in his book Ancestral Future, which calls on us to reforest the imagination as a path toward healing and protecting the Earth.

Workshops led by Fantoplast and Precious Plastic Vienna, alongside guest sessions on urban foraging, ancestral herbalism, and restorative ecology, offer space to reflect on our relationship with waste and urbanization, and reconnect with our inner landscapes.

Once completed, the plastic forest installation will be sold to raise funds for forest care initiatives, locally and globally, transforming urban waste into new alliances with the land.

FLORESTANIA IM DRITTEN is a project conceptualized by Mary Maggic (Artist & Project Lead), in collaboration with Max Scheidl (Workshop Facilitation & Conceptional Consultation from Fantoplast & Precious Plastic Vienna), Leon Thomas (Head of Material Sourcing), and Sofia Zorzi (Head of Design & Communication).
